Not only does this create a far more lifelike silhouette and place the eyes in a realistic location, but it also makes the fly far easier to retrieve over a grabby, uneven bottom structure. Likewise, I believe that most bonefish flies lack the quality that we refer to as "bugginess" in freshwater flies. They are often clean and sterile to both the human and the fish's eye.
